Kina: Frigiven men under konstant övervakning

I fängelset försämrades hans hälsa drastiskt.

Dear Director,

Human rights lawyer Jiang Tianyong was released from prison on 28 February this year. However, he remains under heavy surveillance. Everywhere he goes he is closely followed by a group of unidentified people.

Since his release Jiang Tianyong has needed a medical check-up, but has been unable to schedule an appointment out of concern that the presence of unidentified people will influence the medical care he receives. As he is banned from leaving China, he cannot seek medical care overseas. Consequences of being tortured in prison continue to impact Jiang Tianyong’s health, and he is in urgent need of adequate healthcare.

Therefore I urge you to stop the surveillance and restrictions of freedom of movement on Jiang Tianyong and his family, and ensure that he has unrestricted access to medical care.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear Mr Ali Alghasi Mehr,
Allow me to express my profound concern for Iraninan-Swedish citizen Dr Ahmadreza Djalali, imprisoned in Tehran’s Evin prison. He is being denied the urgent specialized medical care he needs. Different blood tests indicates that he has a low white blood cell count. After an examination in early 2019 it was recommended that Dr Ahmadreza Djalali be seen by doctors specialized in haematology and oncology in a hospital outside of prison.

On two occasions a transfer was scheduled to a hospital outside of prison to see a specialist, but conditioned that Dr Djalali be shackled and wearing a prison uniform. He protested against these degrading conditions and, in reprisal, the authorities cancelled the transfer. These conditions seems to be deliberately designed to humiliate and punish him, and violates the absolute prohibition on cruel, inhuman or degrading treatments under international law.

I call for the immediate release of Dr Ahmadreza Djalali, and in the meantime that he be granted the specialized medical care he needs outside prison.

Yours sincerely,

Your Excellency,

Allow me to express my concern about the treatment of Nguyen Van Hoa, a journalist and human rights defender, imprisoned solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression.

Nguyen Van Hoa was arrested in January 2017 after covering a public demonstration on the Formosa environmental disaster. In a secret trial in November 2017 he was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison on the charge of “conducting propaganda against the state”. According to information Nguyen Van Hoa has been tortured by prison officials and placed in solitary confinement.

I urge Your Excellency to immediately and unconditionally release Nguyen Van Hoa imprisoned solely for peacefully exercising his right to freedom of expression, and pending his release, ensure that he is is protected from torture and other ill-treatment while in prison and that there is a prompt and impartial investigation into allegations of torture

Yours respectfully,
